Dr. Yin Liao

Biography

Yin Liao is a Professor and Director of Research at the Department of Applied Finance and Co-director of the Faculty Research Center for Nature Positive Finance at Macquarie University. He joined the university in July 2019, having previously held positions at the Australian National University and Queensland University of Technology. He holds a Master’s in Economics and a PhD in Financial Econometrics from the Australian National University. Professor Liao's primary research areas include FinTech, Household Finance, Sustainable Finance, and Financial Econometrics. His findings have been published in prestigious journals such as Management Science, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Business Economics and Statistics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and Energy Economics. He has collaborated with industry partners, including major banks and FinTech firms, to analyze large, unstructured data sets related to personal and small business finance. Liao has secured several competitive external research grants, including two Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Projects, and he currently leads a research group comprising two postdoctoral researchers and multiple PhD and master’s students. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for PLOS and a Guest Editor for the International Review of Financial Analysis. His work focuses on sustainable digital finance and modeling economic impacts related to climate resilience.
