Dr. Ying Show

Biography

Ying Xin Show is a Senior Lecturer and ARC DECRA Fellow at the Australian National University, serving in the Department of Gender, Media and Cultural Studies. She is also the Director of the ANU Malaysia Institute at the College of Asia and the Pacific. Ying has held postdoctoral positions at the International Center for Cultural Studies, National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan, and has been a visiting researcher at the KUNCI Cultural Studies Center in Indonesia. Her prior experience includes a role as a contract lecturer in the Chinese Department at the University of Malaya and as an assistant editor for the online independent news portal Malaysiakini in Kuala Lumpur. Show is a co-founder and executive committee member of the Rumah Attap Library & Collective, which focuses on community building in the cultural studies field. Her research interests encompass Southeast Asian History and Literature, Inter-Asia Cultural Studies, Chinese Sinophone literature, Gender Studies, and themes surrounding the Chinese Diaspora and migration. Among her contributions to the field are a co-edited book titled 'Revisiting Malaya: Uncovering Historical Political Thoughts of the Nusantara' and a journal special issue on the Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia. Ying is currently working on a monograph and various projects focused on contemporary migrant workers' literature in Southeast Asia, alongside a translation project on Singaporean literature.
