Biography

Professor Ying Zheng is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Chemical Reaction Intensification at Western University. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario in 1999. His research interests encompass catalysis, catalytic processes, and clean energy innovations, particularly focusing on the development of new catalytic materials and processes for CO2 utilization, nitrogen fixation, and hydrogen production, as well as clean and biofuel upgrading. Professor Zheng has successfully launched projects that emphasize critical minerals and lithium battery recycling and has utilized organic solvents and mechanochemical methods to extract valuable elements. An enthusiastic educator, he has trained numerous graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. He actively participates in the Chemical Engineering Society and has served as Chair of the Catalysis Division for the Chemical Institute of Canada from 2018 to 2020. He is also involved in various journal editorial boards and grant selection committees. His contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards including the 2018 Applied Catalysis Award by the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and the 2010 Syncrude Canada Innovation Award.
