Biography

Yinghua Yu is a Research Fellow at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI), specializing in the sociocultural aspects of healthcare, migration, employment, and the development of social research methods. He received his PhD in Sociology from Western Sydney University in 2023. His current research focuses on patient safety and the cultural changes within the healthcare sector and the impact of consumer engagement. He employs social theory and qualitative approaches to unpack the complexities of public and private health practices, procedures, and temporalities within health organizations. Yinghua has been involved in supervising PhD and MRes candidates and has lectured both undergraduate and postgraduate students in media communication, sociology, and social research policy at various institutions including the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney, and Western Sydney University. He is open to hearing from prospective PhD and MRes candidates interested in health issues within culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and utilizes qualitative methods such as ethnography, interviews, focus groups, and participatory observation in his research.
