Professor Yinong Liu completed his B.Eng. degree at Beijing University of Science and Technology in 1982 and received his PhD from the University of Western Australia in 1991. He undertook postdoctoral research at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble, France, in 1993 as a France-Australia Postdoctoral Fellow. Liu's research focuses on materials science and engineering, particularly physical metallurgy, shape memory alloys, metallic composites, and elastic strain engineering, among others. He has supervised 30 PhD students and published over 300 research articles, with significant contributions attracting 8000 citations and an h-index of 44.
