Biography

Yizhaq (Tsachik) Gelander received his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2004. He has held faculty positions at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Weizmann Institute of Science. In 2022, he joined Northwestern University as a professor in the Department of Mathematics. His research focuses on Lie groups, topological groups, symmetric spaces, and lattices in discrete subgroups of locally compact groups. Gelander was awarded the Nessyahu Prize by the Israeli Mathematical Union in 2006 for his contributions to the field. In addition, he delivered distinguished Nachdiplom Lectures at ETH Zurich in 2011 and served as an invited speaker at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians.
