Biography

In March 2022, Ylva Holstad began her doctoral studies at the Department of Nursing at Umeå University. Her dissertation comprises four studies that explore the experiences of childbirth and parenthood in adults with congenital heart disease (CHD). This project includes interview-based studies examining midwives’ experiences in caring for women with CHD during childbirth and the experiences of parents of children with CHD. Furthermore, she is involved in register-based studies utilizing data from the Swedish Pregnancy Register and the Swedish Registry for Congenital Heart Disease (SWEDCON) to investigate self-rated health and breastfeeding frequency among women with CHD. With experience as a clinical midwife, she has a particular interest in complicated childbirths, emphasizing that effective teamwork is essential for ensuring a safe and positive birth experience. Additionally, she plays a significant role in supervising midwifery students, which holds great importance in her clinical work.
