Dr. Yogi Hendlin

Biography

Dr. Yogi Hale Hendlin is an environmental philosopher and public health scientist at Erasmus University Rotterdam's Erasmus School of Philosophy, where he is also a core faculty member of the Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity Initiative. He is a research associate at the Environmental Health Initiative at the University of California, San Francisco. His work has been published in esteemed journals including Annals of Internal Medicine, BMJ, American Journal of Public Health, and Environmental Ethics, and it has frequently drawn international media attention. Hendlin's interdisciplinary research projects delve into fundamental questions at the intersection of philosophy and biology, including political philosophy and epistemology in public health, with a keen interest in the systemic transmission of ignorance. He earned his PhD in Philosophy with magna cum laude honors from the University of Kiel, Germany, in 2015. He also holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, UCLA, and the London School of Economics. Hendlin has completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Vienna and UC San Francisco and was named a Brocher Foundation Fellow in 2020. His current research areas include biosemiotics, environmental justice, and various aspects of political philosophy, underscoring the relevance of philosophical discourse in contemporary public health debates.
