Biography

Yonca Arat, MD, is an American board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in ophthalmic plastic reconstructive surgery. She earned her medical degree from Hacettepe University Medical School and completed her residency in ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine, where she also pursued further training in oculoplastic surgery. Prior to her current role as Professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of Oculoplastic Surgery at Yale Ophthalmology, Dr. Arat served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin and became an Associate Professor at Baskent University in Turkey. With over eight years at Hacettepe University Hospital in Ankara, she has led the Oculoplastic Surgery service and contributed significantly to the field through invited lectures, book chapters on oculoplastic surgery, and numerous scientific publications. Dr. Arat is also recognized for her extensive presentations at international meetings and has received the Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Her expertise includes the management of eyelid and orbital pathologies, ptosis repair, and treatment for conditions like thyroid eye disease in both pediatric and adult patients.
