Yong Chen is a Professor in the Departments of Aerospace Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2001. Prior to joining USC in 2006, he was a senior Research and Development engineer at 3D Systems Inc., a pioneer in the 3D printing industry. He has published over 180 papers in refereed journals and conferences and has received ten Best/Outstanding Paper Awards from major design and manufacturing journals. His accolades also include the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award in 2012 and the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers in 2008. Dr. Chen is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and has served as a conference chair and keynote speaker at international conferences. At USC, he teaches design and manufacturing-related courses to undergraduate and graduate students, and has assisted students and collaborators in creating startup companies related to 3D printing.
