Biography

Yong Chen is a professor in the fields of Aerospace Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Systems Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2001. Before joining USC in 2006, he worked as a senior Research Development engineer at 3D Systems Inc., a pioneer in the 3D printing industry. His research is focused on additive manufacturing (3D printing) at micro and meso scales, particularly in modeling, analyzing, synthesizing, and optimizing digital design manufacturing. Chen has published more than 180 works in refereed journals and conferences and has received multiple Best/Outstanding Paper Awards in key design and manufacturing publications. Noteworthy accolades include the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award in 2012 and being named Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Additionally, he has served as a chair and keynote speaker at various international conferences.
