Biography

Yong Zeng is a professor in the Concordia Institute of Information Systems Engineering at Concordia University. He served as the NSERC Chair for the Aerospace Design Engineering program from 2015 to 2019 and was a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in design science from 2004 to 2014. Before joining Concordia in August 2003, he was a research associate at the Integrated Manufacturing Technologies Institute of the National Research Council Canada. He received his Ph.D. in Design Engineering from the University of Calgary in 2001, and a second Ph.D. in Computational Mechanics from Dalian University of Technology in 1992, having also completed a Master's degree in 1989 and a B.Eng degree in Structural Engineering in 1986. Zeng’s research focuses on improving creative design activities, proposing a new design theory called Environment-Based Design, and exploring various topics like cognitive experimental methodology, neurocognitive models of design creativity, and the interplay between linguistics and design creativity. He has also been an editorial leader in various journals, including serving as Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Integrated Design Process Science from January 2012 to 2019 and as an Associate Editor for other notable journals.
