Biography

Yongmin Jung joined the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton in the UK in 2008 and has been a Principal Research Fellow since 2018. He received his B.S. degree in Physics with top honors from Chung-Ang University in Korea in 2003, followed by his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in engineering information communications from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) from 2004 to 2008. His main research interests lie in multimode (or multicore) fiber amplifiers, space division multiplexing (SDM) technology, and high-capacity transmission. He has been a key contributor to significant advancements in SDM technology, including achieving world-first results with multimode erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, setting the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for SDM transmission, and winning the EU HORIZON PRIZE for breaking optical transmission barriers. His contributions also extend to commercialization efforts in SDM amplifier technology. Dr. Jung's extensive publication record includes three book chapters, six patents, and over 430 scientific papers, reflecting his active engagement in advancing the field of optical fiber technologies.
