Dr. Youhai Chen

Biography

Youhai H. Chen is an Emeritus Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, specializing in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He has an extensive academic background, holding degrees including an M.B. from Shandong University, a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Manitoba, and post-doctoral training at Harvard University. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of inflammatory diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer, with a particular emphasis on how immune-related genes affect the activation and function of inflammatory cells. Dr. Chen's laboratory conducts functional genomic studies, examining the gene expression profiles in autoimmune inflammation, particularly in the central nervous system. His findings have contributed significantly to the understanding of the links between inflammation and cancer, as well as potential immunotherapy and gene therapy strategies for treatment. Dr. Chen is also recognized for his contributions to the TIPE family and its role in inflammation and cancer.
