Biography

Yow-Pin Lim is an adjunct professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Brown University. He has a research scientist background in protein immunochemistry, with his dissertation completed in Berlin, Germany. Since joining Brown's faculty in 1993, his research has focused on the role of natural serine protease inhibitor proteins in systemic inflammation, sepsis, and cancer metastasis. He co-founded the start-up company ProThera Biologics in East Providence, RI, where he served as President and Chief Scientific Officer. His research aims to develop inter-alpha inhibitors (IaI) as viable theranostic markers and therapeutic agents for sepsis and cancer. Discoveries include the significant correlation of IaI levels with disease severity and mortality in septic patients, and their potential ability to inhibit tumor cell migration. He has been awarded multiple research grants from institutions such as the American Cancer Society and NIH. Lim is also affiliated with various professional organizations, including the American Association for Cancer Research and the German Biological Chemistry Association.
