Dr. Ysobel Baker

Biography

Ysobel Baker is a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, specializing in nucleic acid chemistry and therapeutics. She completed her PhD in Chemistry at the University of Cambridge in 2015, under the supervision of Professor David Spring, focusing on the development of chemical probes to study inter-bacterial communication. Following her PhD, Ysobel worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Tom Brown at the University of Oxford, where she created novel chemical modifications for therapeutic oligonucleotides. In 2021, she joined the Nucleic Acid Therapy Accelerator (NATA) as a senior researcher before taking on her current position in Southampton. Her research interests include designing novel analogues of nucleic acids and improving targeted delivery methods for therapeutics and diagnostics. Ysobel's work at the University of Southampton involves designing new tools to study nucleic acids and developing innovative therapeutic agents to tackle severe diseases. She also plays an active role in mentoring PhD students and conducting advanced research in chemical biology and organic chemistry.
