Biography

Professor Yu-Chong Tai's research applies Semiconductor, MEMS, and NEMS technologies to medical applications. He established the Caltech MEMS Laboratory, an 8,000-square-foot facility dedicated to medical device development, which includes a clean-room lab, CAD lab, measurement/test/metrology lab, and biological lab. His lab supports graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and visiting scholars in creating innovative MEMS/NEMS medical devices. Over the past two decades, his research has focused on medical devices such as micromotors, neural chips, micro pumps, and wireless micro drug delivery systems. His major programs also include miniature micro implants and collaborations with medical professionals and biologists at UCSF, USC, and UCLA to develop implants for cortical, retinal, and spinal applications. Tai's group is enthusiastic about engaging students and researchers who are passionate about technology and device creation.
