Biography

Yu-Shin Ding has 25 years of experience in the development and application of novel PET ligands for translational research aimed at studying various disorders. His work focuses on the biochemical mechanisms of drug action in living humans using PET, providing a bridge between the fields of chemistry, biology, and medicine. He has served as Principal Investigator for drug occupancy studies in phase II clinical trials, collaborating with pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and GSK. Currently, Dr. Ding leads imaging grants that explore drug mechanisms tied to obesity and sleep-related tau. His extensive research has resulted in over 40 publications highlighting the selective vulnerability of the locus coeruleus-norepinephrine (LC-NE) system in aging and stress-related disorders, including cocaine addiction, ADHD, PTSD, and obesity. Recent studies indicate that black males experience a faster decline in norepinephrine transporter (NET) availability starting in their mid-30s, raising critical questions about health disparities in aging and Alzheimer's disease. His findings aim to refine biomarker classification systems to account for racial differences in AD risk.
