Dr. Yu Sun

Biography

Yu Sun is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, holding a joint appointment at the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Institute. His research investigates advanced algorithms and the mathematical foundations of computational imaging, integrating machine learning, computer vision, optimization, probability theory, and physics. His work aims to establish a comprehensive framework for incorporating artificial intelligence in imaging systems, which enhances reliability and interpretability while overcoming the limitations of traditional methodologies. Before joining Johns Hopkins, Sun was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics Information from Sichuan University in 2015 and a PhD in Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis in 2022, where his doctoral dissertation received the Turner Dissertation Award for his contributions to computational imaging and machine learning. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and serves actively on the IEEE Signal Processing Society's Computational Imaging Technical Committee, in addition to being a consultant and associate editor for the IEEE Open Journal of Signal Processing.
