Yu Zhang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Genetics, and Immunology at Michigan State University. He earned his M.D. in 2008 from Capital Medical University in China and completed his Ph.D. in 2013 at Georgia Institute of Technology. Following his doctoral studies, he served as a postdoctoral fellow from 2013 to 2018 at Boston Children's Hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on antibody diversification, which is crucial in protecting the human body against infectious diseases and cancers. Abnormalities in antibody diversification can lead to various diseases, including immunodeficiency and autoimmunity, and play a role in oncogenic translocations associated with leukemias and lymphomas. The Zhang lab investigates the mechanisms that promote antibody diversification and suppress oncogenic lesions in B lymphocytes. They have a special interest in the 3D genome organization and chromatin status, which collaboratively contribute to antibody generation, gene regulation, and genome integrity. The lab employs various advanced methodologies, including CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome manipulation and sequencing techniques. Dr. Zhang invites motivated postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and research assistants to join his lab, where trainees have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in molecular biology, immunology, and bioinformatics.
