Yu Zhong earned a B.S. in Chemistry in 2011 from the University of Science and Technology of China and received his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Columbia University in 2017, under the supervision of Professor Colin Nuckolls. His graduate research focused on designing contorted molecules for electronic energy applications, particularly in organic solar cells, photodetectors, and gas sensors. Following this, he conducted postdoctoral research in Professor Jiwoong Park's group at the University of Chicago, where he developed and synthesized 2D polymers for ultrathin electronic circuits and energy conversion. In July 2022, he became an assistant professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell University. His research interests lie in the development of novel soft materials and nanomaterials, including organic electronic materials, porous polymers, and hybrid 2D materials, with a focus on applications in electronics, energy, healthcare, and sustainability. His work includes the design and synthesis of new materials and investigates the structure-property relationships that underlie advancements in flexible electronics and separation processes.
