Biography

Yuan Teng Hooi graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Malaya in 2011 and completed his PhD in Pathology, focusing on the pathogenic studies and molecular characterization of Coxsackievirus A16 infection using animal models and in vitro assays, at the same university in 2020. His postdoctoral research at the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences at Monash University Malaysia is under the guidance of Dr. Vinod RMT Balasubramaniam within the Infection Immunity Cluster. Dr. Hooi's research specializes in developing monoclonal antibodies targeting Enterovirus D68 and investigating its pathogenic mechanisms and histopathological characteristics through preclinical evaluations. He has published several peer-reviewed articles and presented his research at international conferences, where he received accolades such as the “Best Poster Prize” at the Hand, Foot Mouth Disease International Conference in 2016. His research contributions include the development of animal models for studying enteroviral infections and he's an active collaborator on interdisciplinary projects involving external partners. Dr. Hooi combines his expertise in virology, cell biology, and immunology to foster impactful research and inspire upcoming researchers in the field.
