Biography

Yuan Zhong researches applied probability, modeling analysis of large-scale stochastic systems, and their applications in business engineering. His research interests have recently expanded to include applications in data centers and cloud computing. Zhong's work has been published in prestigious journals such as Queueing Systems and the Annals of Applied Probability. Before joining the University of Chicago, Zhong was an assistant professor at Columbia University in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, where he taught courses in stochastic networks, simulation, and probability models. He began his academic career at Columbia in 2013 after completing a year as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Computer Science Department at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his PhD in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, and has an MA in mathematics from the California Institute of Technology (2008) and a BA in mathematics from the University of Cambridge (2006).
