Biography

Dr. Tang received BS degrees in Geology and Economics from Peking University in 2003, followed by MS and PhD degrees in Geosciences from Stony Brook University, earned in 2005 and 2008 respectively. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on environmental chemistry and microbial geochemistry at Harvard University. Dr. Tang joined the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech in 2013 and took on a courtesy position in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2018. His research centers on understanding the fundamentals and applications of molecular scale geochemical reactions and mineral-water interfaces in both natural and engineered systems. He has published over 80 papers and has secured more than $8 million in research funding. His research interests include molecular scale biogeochemical processes at solid-liquid interfaces, contaminant remediation, transport, elemental cycling, microbially mediated mineral formation and transformation, and the development of advanced synchrotron X-ray techniques for resource recovery.
