Dr. Yue Qian

Biography

Yue Qian is a Professor at the University of British Columbia in the Department of Sociology. Her research focuses on gender, family work, and inequality in global contexts, particularly in North America and East Asia. She has published over 60 articles in top-tier journals such as Nature Human Behaviour, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), American Sociological Review, and Journal of Marriage and Family. Qian has delivered 50 invited talks across North America, Asia, and Europe, and her work has been featured in international media outlets, including CBC and the New York Washington Post. Her research has influenced policy discussions at major organizations such as the United Nations and the World Bank. In recognition of her contributions, she has received several awards, including the Killam Research Prize from UBC. Qian actively engages in public sociology, aiming to raise awareness about issues related to family, gender, and social justice. Her current projects examine the intersections of gender, family, and work, with a focus on how these dynamics shape health and well-being. Apart from her academic pursuits, Qian enjoys yoga, snowboarding, and windsurfing, finding solace in nature.
