Biography

Hugh trained as an employed veterinarian in Foshan, China. He earned a Master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine from Jilin, China, a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology from Ottawa, and a Doctorate in Veterinary Science from the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) at the University of Guelph. Since joining the Animal Health Laboratory (AHL) in 1997, he has worked as a Veterinary Molecular Biologist and Veterinary Microbiologist, overseeing sections on Molecular Biology and Mycoplasmology with a focus on fish testing. His research emphasizes molecular diagnosis of infections caused by fastidious microorganisms. In addition to his laboratory work, he also serves as an internal assessor for ISO-17025 AAVLD accreditation. The OVC is recognized as a world leader in advancing veterinary medicine and health research aimed at improving the health of animals, people, and the planet.
