Biography

Dr. Yuen Lin Cheow is currently a senior lecturer in the School of Science at Monash University Malaysia. He obtained his BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and MSc in Natural Product Chemistry from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He undertook his PhD in Organometallic Chemistry at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He is trained in organometallic chemistry, specifically in the transformation of asymmetric arsenic phosphine ligands into cyclometallated complexes. Prior to his current role, he lectured at Singapore Polytechnic. As an author and co-author of 40 refereed articles, he has secured funding from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and the Toray Science Foundation to support various research projects. Dr. Cheow's research interests include the synthesis and evaluation of metal complexes for their biological properties, focusing on developing metal-based complexes with potential antimicrobial and anticancer activities. His current projects involve creating triphenylphosphonium-functionalized metal–azole complexes to enhance antimicrobial potency. He adopts a multidisciplinary approach that combines synthetic chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, and in vitro biological evaluation. He is also committed to teaching Advanced Chemistry courses.
