Biography

Yuhang Hu joined the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology as an assistant professor in August 2018. Prior to this, he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2015 to 2018. He obtained his Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from Harvard University, where he also worked as a post-doctoral fellow focusing on Materials Chemistry from 2011 to 2014. His research areas include Soft Active Materials, specifically stimuli-responsive gels and soft biological tissues, exploring phenomena such as poroelasticity and coupled deformation with chemical reactions. His work emphasizes an integrated approach combining experimental and theoretical methods. Current research topics include chemomechanical modeling of soft materials, multi-scale mechanical characterization, and the design and fabrication of new dynamic multifunctional materials for various applications.
