Dr. Yuk Yung

Biography

Professor Yuk L. Yung is a renowned expert in Planetary Science and holds a professorship at the California Institute of Technology, where he has been influential in the field since the mid-1980s. He has made significant contributions to the understanding of upper atmosphere photochemistry and radiative transfer in atmospheres, alongside investigating stratospheric ozone depletion. Yung’s extensive academic career includes roles as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, with a brief tenure as the Smits Family Professor. His research has positioned him as a key figure in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Senior Research Scientist, where he continues to engage in cutting-edge atmospheric studies. Over the years, he has supervised many graduate students and contributed to numerous publications within his domain. Yung received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of California and earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University, laying a robust foundation for his illustrious career in environmental science engineering.
