Biography

Yuki Kanayama is a PhD candidate specializing in Economic Geography at the London School of Economics (LSE). His research focuses on empirical studies in urban economics, particularly analyzing the dynamics of vacant properties in prosperous areas. Yuki has investigated the factors contributing to housing owners' delays in realizing their assets amid strong demand and the negative externalities caused by derelict houses. His interests extend to housing affordability, the impacts of vacancy taxes, and the management of vacant lots, including those owned by unknown parties. Prior to joining LSE, Yuki worked with Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as an administrative official. He was involved in regulatory reforms in the construction industry and international cooperation on railway projects across Southeast Asia, the United States, Australia, Europe, and Latin America. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics (2020) and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (2018) from Waseda University, with a specialization in environmental and urban economics.
