Biography

Yukun Hu has a strong background in Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering, focusing on fluid mechanics and thermal engineering. He is an expert in dynamical systems, differential equations, and operator theory, applying models to optimize control of complex nonlinear dynamic systems. With familiarity in numerical methods and solvers, including finite element, finite difference, and spectral methods, he obtained his Doctorate and Licentiate degrees from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, where he conducted cutting-edge research in energy systems modeling and optimization. Dr. Hu has held research and academic positions at the University of South Wales, University of Warwick, and Cranfield University before joining University College London in 2019. He has over 10 years of research experience in industry decarbonisation-related fields, including carbon capture storage, hydrogen production utilization, bioenergy biorefinery, and waste-to-energy. Dr. Hu is involved in national and international research projects funded by the UK Research Councils, European Commission, and industry. At UCL, he teaches courses on energy systems analysis, energy management, and sustainable development and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as PhD candidates on topics related to energy and the environment. He is passionate about promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange between academia, industry, and policymakers to address global challenges related to energy transition and climate change.
