Biography

Yulanda Curtis joined the University of Illinois College of Law in 2018 to develop the new Veterans Legal Clinic, providing free civil legal assistance to veterans and their family members. Prior to her tenure at Illinois, Professor Curtis taught at the University of Michigan Veterans Legal Clinic as a clinical fellow, where she was instrumental in founding the clinic and participating in its policy formation. She has also served as a member of the Michigan Women Veterans Advisory Board since its inception. In addition to her academic pursuits, she has experience addressing issues related to administrative law and disability benefits, having worked as Associate Counsel for the Board of Veterans Appeals. During her time at the Board, she presented ideas to senior government officials to enhance the consistency of employee training within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Professor Curtis earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration with distinction from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and completed her JD at the University of Pittsburgh, where she was involved in the Legal Aid Practicum. She is also proud of her family's long history of military service, with both parents being veterans.
