Yuling completed his PhD at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. He then took a postdoctoral position at Purdue University, working on a project at the Bindely Bioscience Center focused on Nanobiotechnology. After 22 months at Purdue, he was awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt fellowship, which allowed him to work at the University of Osnabrück in Germany for two years. During his time in Germany, he secured an individual grant supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) working at the University of Duisburg-Essen on the topic of multiplexed cytokine detection using plasmonic nanostructures. He commenced his ARC DECRA fellowship in 2014, became a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University in 2017, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020 before attaining the rank of Professor in 2023. Yuling is a Chief Investigator at the ARC Center of Excellence for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP) and leads the SERS program in vitro diagnostics.
