Biography

Yumi Parks joined the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Tech in Fall 2022, where she teaches Introductory and Intermediate Japanese language courses, as well as LBAT courses including JAPN 3693 (Japan Sustainable Society) and JAPN 3694 (Conversation Practicum). Prior to her position at Georgia Tech, she was a senior lecturer in Japanese language and culture at Azusa Pacific University, where she led the Japanese program and received the CLAS Faculty Excellence award. Parks has also provided technical translation and research assistance services for Toppan Inc., a leading printing conglomerate. She has experience working in record labels in Japan and currently works as a freelance interpreter, translator, and journalist in the music industry. Parks holds a Master's degree in Education with a specialization in curriculum instruction for diverse learners and is dedicated to community service. She has led volunteer teams consisting of students to provide services in Ishinomaki city, Japan, following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.
