Biography

Yuming Fu is an economist whose teaching and research focus on the workings of cities and the policies that enable them to succeed. His research has significantly contributed to the understanding of housing choices, real estate market price discovery, urban land market efficiency, labor mobility, and resource allocation in urban areas. His findings have been published in leading academic journals across the fields of real estate, urban economics, and urban planning, including Management Science and the American Economic Review. Yuming has also contributed to housing policy analysis and has served as an advisor to government agencies in China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Currently, his research centers on emerging urban issues, considering policy implications of urban planning, adaptation to climate change, technology changes, social interactions, well-being, and the complexities of urban success. He holds joint appointments as Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture of the College of Design and Engineering and the Department of Real Estate at NUS Business School. Yuming served as vice dean of research for the School of Design and Environment from 2010 to 2016 before becoming the acting director of the NUS Institute of Real Estate Studies. His leadership in research has equipped him with a broader perspective on urban challenges, enabling effective collaboration with scholars from various fields to address these issues. Yuming earned his Ph.D. in urban land economics and his MSc in management science from the University of British Columbia, as well as a BEng from Shanghai Jiaotong University. He is a two-time board member of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA) and has been associated with the Asian Real Estate Society, serving on editorial boards for journals in real estate research.
