Yunjie Gu is an Associate Professor in Power Systems and Director of the MSc programme in Future Power Networks at Imperial College London. His academic career began at General Electric (GE) Global Research Centre in Shanghai, where he led various research and development projects focused on the integration of renewable power grids. His research career kicked off with a specialization in power-electronic converters and their control in solar power systems. His early work led to the development of intellectual properties and the establishment of a spinout company, Hoymiles, which is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. At Imperial, his research interests have expanded to include power-electronic technologies that enhance power system stability, as well as numerical computational methods for power system analysis and simulation. He holds eight patents, with seven granted in China and additional patents in the US and EU. Alongside his research, he enjoys software and hardware development, particularly in real-time computing and digital twins. Yunjie is also an international maintainer of the open-source real-time operating system RT-Thread and co-founder of the open-source power system analysis and simulation toolbox, Simplus Grid-Tool. He is currently recruiting PhD students with interests in power electronics, power systems, and real-time computing, offering fully-funded studentships for capable candidates from various related disciplines.
