Dr. Yuri Bazilevs

Biography

Yuri Bazilevs is the E. Paul Sorensen Professor at the School of Engineering at Brown University. With a notable career, he previously served as a Full Professor and Vice Chair of the Structural Engineering Department at the Jacobs School of Engineering, UC San Diego. His academic journey includes significant roles as an Assistant Professor and Associate Professor, achieving tenure and later full professorship in 2014. His educational background features a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and postdoctoral training at its Institute for Computational Engineering Sciences. Bazilevs’ research primarily focuses on computational mechanics and engineering sciences, particularly advanced computational methods and fluid-structure interaction. He is recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher and has an extensive publication record with over 195 peer-reviewed papers. His innovative contributions include pioneering Isogeometric Analysis, which integrates Computer-Aided Design with Finite Element Analysis to solve complex engineering problems. His work addresses significant issues in renewable energy, biomechanics, and civil engineering, especially concerning the impacts of extreme environmental conditions. Bazilevs teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on solid and structural mechanics, emphasizing computational methods.
