Yuri Kivshar received his PhD degree in 1984 from Kharkov, Ukraine. He left the Soviet Union in 1989 for various visiting positions in Europe and settled in Australia in 1993. His research interests include nonlinear physics, metamaterials, and nanophotonics. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science since 2002, as well as a Fellow of Optica, the American Physical Society (APS), SPIE, and the Institute of Physics (IOP). In 2022, he received the Max Born Award from Optica. He actively supervises research students and has a significant record of collaborative projects and research output.
