Biography

Yury Polyanskiy is a professor at the MIT Statistics Data Science Center and a member of the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS). He focuses on fundamental questions in information theory, including topics such as error-correcting codes, wireless communication, and fault-tolerant and defect-tolerant circuits. Polyanskiy earned an M.S. degree in applied mathematics and physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2005, followed by a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Princeton University in 2010. Prior to joining MIT, he worked as a lead developer of embedded software at the Department of Surface Oilfield Equipment at Borets Company LLC in Moscow from 2000 to 2005. He has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the NSF CAREER award in 2013 and the IEEE Information Theory Society Paper Award in 2011. Outside of his academic pursuits, he enjoys exploring advanced mathematical concepts, particularly in algebraic geometry and algebraic topology, as well as experimenting with the Linux kernel.
