Biography

Yusong Bai is an experimental physical chemist specializing in the quantum properties of low-dimensional materials. His research is centered on designing and probing correlated electron systems, strongly-interacting exciton systems, and 2D magnetic systems, particularly focusing on quantum phase transitions that occur at the Hamiltonian level rather than the temperature-driven thermal phase transitions. Dr. Bai received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Duke University in 2017, followed by postdoctoral research at Columbia University. He joined the Department of Chemistry at Brown University in August 2022. His lab research is interdisciplinary, bridging quantum research with condensed matter physics and materials design in contemporary chemistry. The Bai Lab aims to pioneer new concepts, phenomena, and functions defined by quantum emergence.
