Biography

Yuting Yuan is an Assistant Professor in the Supply Chain and Information Systems Department at the Smeal College of Business, Penn State University. He received his Ph.D. in Operations Management from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester in 2022. Prior to joining Smeal, he served as a visiting faculty member at the College of William & Mary. His research primarily focuses on understanding and improving service operations, as well as enhancing the interpretability of high-stakes decision-making. His academic background includes a Master’s degree in Financial Statistics from Rutgers University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Nanjing University. At Smeal, he teaches courses on Data Mining in Business and Business Intelligence, where he emphasizes the application of various data mining tools and techniques to detect and exploit patterns in large structured and unstructured datasets. Through active learning and hands-on experience, he prepares students to effectively apply data mining applications across different business sectors including marketing, finance, and supply chain management.
