Biography

Yuval Elani is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London and a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow. He leads the Bioinspired Technologies Group, comprising approximately 20 postdocs and PhD students. Elani is recognized as a leading expert in synthetic cells, microfluidics, BioHybrids, synthetic biology, lipid nanoparticle design, and membrane engineering. He completed his PhD in 2015 and has secured numerous large-scale grants aimed at conducting pioneering research in a variety of applied areas. His research portfolio includes collaborations with industry leaders such as Syngenta, GSK, AstraZeneca, and Neobe. Elani has received multiple awards for his research achievements, including the Roscoe Medal, Rita & John Cornforth Medal, RSC Felix Franks Medal, Nicklin Medal, and Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize. His work focuses on the creation of new generation artificial bioinspired technologies, including biomolecular robots and synthetic cells designed for applications in therapeutics, diagnostics, vaccines, sensing, bio-manufacturing, and energy. He also serves in various roles at Imperial, including Co-Director of the Membrane Biophysics Platform and as a member of the Executive Board of the Institute of Chemical Biology.
