Biography

Yves Perriard was born in Lausanne in 1965. He received his M.Sc. in Microengineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) in 1989 and completed his Ph.D. in 1992. He is currently a Professor and the Director of the Laboratory of Integrated Actuators (LAI) at EPFL, appointed as a Senior Lecturer in 1998 and as a full Professor in 2003. Perriard co-founded Micro-Beam SA, serving as CEO for a company specializing in high precision electric drive solutions. His research focuses on the design of new actuators associated with electronic devices, particularly in medical applications. He was appointed Vice-Director of the Microengineering Institute in Neuchâtel in 2009 and has served on the CTI commission in Bern since 2013. In 2014, he was appointed a guest professor at Zhejiang University, China, and in 2017, his lab received a grant of 12 million CHF from the Werner Siemens Foundation to establish a new Center for Artificial Muscles. He has played a vital role in the field of electroactive polymers and actuators, with numerous awards to his name, including honors from IEEE for his outstanding contributions in the field.
