Biography

Yvonne Nygård works as Associate Professor in the Division of Industrial Biotechnology at Chalmers University. She also holds a position as Research Professor at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. In 2019, Yvonne was awarded the Hasselblad Foundation Female Researcher grant, and in 2022, she received the Novo Nordisk Foundation Ascending Researcher grant. Yvonne’s primary research interest is the development of microbial cell factories for industrial applications, particularly in the production of chemicals and proteins. She is known for her pioneering work in applying CRISPR/Cas9-based technologies in industrial yeast and filamentous fungi. Additionally, Yvonne has developed biosensors and high-throughput technologies for screening yeast and filamentous fungi under industrially relevant conditions. She is also the Chief Scientific Officer of a start-up named Cirkulär, which focuses on developing filamentous fungi for the valorization of side-stream biomass.
