Biography

Yvonne van der Meer is a Professor of Sustainability Chemicals Materials at Maastricht University and holds the position of scientific vice-director of the Aachen-Maastricht Institute Biobased Materials. Leading the research group at the university's sustainability program, Yvonne aims to develop methods, indicators, and tools for accurate sustainability assessments to support the transition from a linear fossil-based economy to a circular bio-based economy. Her teaching curriculum includes biobased materials, process technology, and sustainability courses within several undergraduate and master's programs. Yvonne has over 25 years of experience in sustainable chemistry and has been involved in numerous public-private partnerships related to sustainable biobased chemistry. She received her Ph.D. from Delft University of Technology in 2001, focusing on catalysts for hydrodesulfurization that were developed in collaboration with Eindhoven University of Technology. Her career includes roles at the Dutch Research Council, advisory positions in sustainable chemistry, and appointments within Maastricht University where she co-founded research institutes and educational programs. In 2022, she was selected as a member of the scientific committee of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking and serves as the vice-president of the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society.
