Biography

Zachary R. Patterson earned his PhD in Neuroscience from Carleton University in 2014. He has extensive experience working in both research and education, previously serving as a Policy Analyst and Knowledge Broker at the Canadian Centre for Substance Use and Addiction in 2018. Currently an Associate Professor (Teaching Stream) and the Undergraduate Chair at Carleton University's Department of Neuroscience, he teaches a variety of courses encompassing topics such as Mental Health, Neuropharmacology, and the neural basis of addiction. His research interests focus on the effects of drugs, particularly cannabis and opioids, on the brain and human behavior, with a commitment to understanding drug use patterns and their health implications. Zachary is dedicated to mobilizing knowledge to foster positive change in public health and safety. He is also a founding member of the CFO Chance Foundation, which supports educational and recreational opportunities for children. In his personal life, Zachary is an avid fan of Toronto sports teams.
