Biography

Zachary Rossetti is an Associate Professor at the Wheelock College of Education and Human Development at Boston University. His research primarily focuses on social inclusion and belonging for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). He investigates the dynamics of friendships and the roles that educators and parents play in facilitating friendship opportunities for students with IDD. His work highlights the experiences of families with children who have IDD, particularly regarding their participation and language access during Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and the importance of family-professional partnerships. Rossetti is dedicated to advocating for culturally and linguistically diverse families, community participation, and the unique sibling roles within these contexts. His research has appeared in prominent journals such as Exceptional Children and the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders. He has served as both an associate editor and on editorial boards for multiple journals related to special education. Prior to his academic career, he worked as an elementary school special education teacher and remains motivated by his personal experiences with his brother, who has cerebral palsy.
