Biography

Zachary Smith received a B.S. in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2008. He later joined the lab of Dr. Alex Meissner at Harvard University’s Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology, focusing on reprogramming somatic cells to pluripotency. In 2019, he obtained his Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard and subsequently joined the Yale Stem Cell Center in the Department of Genetics as an Assistant Professor in September 2020. His research explores critical aspects of fertilization and genome reprogramming, utilizing advanced sequencing technologies and Cas9-based molecular tools to investigate changes in epigenetics and its role in development. Zachary aims to elucidate the molecular pathways governing these processes and develop innovative methods for studying zygotic and embryonic development. His contributions have advanced the understanding of chromatin dynamics and the regulatory mechanisms underpinning development, with implications for genetics and molecular biology. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with numerous researchers to produce significant findings in the field of genetics and embryonic development.
