Biography

Zackory Erickson is an Assistant Professor at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University, where he leads the Robotic Caregiving Human Interaction (RCHI) Lab. His research focuses on developing new robot learning techniques, mobile manipulation, and methods for sensing physical human-robot interaction in healthcare. Zackory received his PhD in Robotics, an MS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech, and a BS in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. His work aims to address the needs of the 5 million people in the United States living with paralysis and the growing elderly population, facilitating the use of assistive robots to empower individuals to live independently and reduce the physical burden on human caregivers. He is particularly interested in the development of physically assistive robots to aid people with loss of motor function due to neurodegenerative diseases, strokes, or spinal cord injuries, as well as creating wearable interfaces to provide robot autonomy for individuals with limited hand function. His research lies at the intersection of robot learning, physical human-robot interaction, and multimodal sensing, working to create wearable devices that capture physiological signals to inform and enhance healthcare outcomes across a variety of diseases.
