Biography

Zafer Akman is a resident physician in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale University. He received his medical degree from Istanbul University–Cerrahpasa in 2022. Prior to his residency, Dr. Akman worked as a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University, where he contributed to clinical translational research initiatives. His research interests focus on improving risk prediction, treatment utilization, and shared decision-making for older adults living with cardiovascular disease. He has been involved in studies that address age-related disparities in cardiovascular care, clinical risk stratification, and optimizing management strategies for aging populations. During his time at Yale, Dr. Akman also gained experience in basic science research in nephrology, specifically regarding the regulation of metalloproteinases in polycystic kidney disease. Outside of medicine, Dr. Akman enjoys basketball, tennis, and exploring the outdoor spaces and restaurant scene of the New Haven area.
